Actor Dhanush is facing legal challenges due to a stalled film project, with the production house Thenandal Films reportedly seeking compensation of ₹20 crore. The notice cites significant financial losses resulting from delays in the film’s progress.
Reports indicate that Dhanush signed onto the film titled Naan Rudran in 2016 but failed to commence shooting. According to a source, the actor had committed to both acting in and directing the project. Changes were made to the initial agreement, but it is alleged that Dhanush did not provide the complete screenplay, causing the film to remain in limbo.
The production house claims to have already invested ₹20 crore as an advance payment, which also covered expenses for co-stars Nagarjuna Akkineni and SJ Suryah, originally intended to share the screen with Dhanush. The production team is asserting that the delays have severely impacted their finances, prompting their demand for compensation to mitigate early production losses. They have warned that further legal action may follow if their demands are not met within the specified timeframe.
In the notice, advocate A. Chidambaram mentioned that the film’s halt was due to Dhanush prioritizing other projects, reportedly providing call sheets for those instead of focusing on Naan Rudran.
As of now, Dhanush has yet to respond to the situation publicly and has remained silent regarding the allegations.
On the film front, Dhanush was recently seen in Kuberaa, Idli Kadai, and Tere Ishk Mein, released in 2025. Tere Ishk Mein, a romantic drama featuring Kriti Sanon, garnered mixed reviews but was successful, concluding its theatrical run with global earnings of ₹161.96 crore. The storyline revolves around Shankar, a man whose life takes a turn following a difficult breakup.
Looking ahead, Dhanush is set to appear in Vignesh Raja’s forthcoming film Kara, expected to be released in theaters this summer, though a specific date has not yet been disclosed. Additionally, he has another project in development, tentatively titled D55, which will be directed by filmmaker Rajkumar Periasamy.
