Sultan Al Qasimi Affirms Universities’ Role in Advancing Society

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, a member of the Supreme Council and the Ruler of Sharjah, as well as the head of the Sharjah Council for Higher Education and Scientific Research, emphasized the significant role universities play in enhancing society.

He highlighted the importance of the Sharjah Council for Higher Education and Scientific Research, which was established to assist universities and academies in the emirate in continuing the path of higher education that began in 1997 with the founding of the University of Sharjah and the American University of Sharjah. This initiative aims to provide students with the finest educational content based on the latest academic curricula.

This statement was made during his chairing of the initial meeting of the Sharjah Council for Higher Education and Scientific Research, which took place yesterday morning at the residence of Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi. The meeting was attended by His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, who also serves as the head of the Sharjah Academy of Police Sciences and the Vice Chairman of the Sharjah Council for Higher Education and Scientific Research.

Others present included His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah, Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the American University of Sharjah, Sheikha Hour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the Global Studies University, along with the council members.

During the meeting, His Highness discussed a variety of topics concerning the operations of universities and academies within the realm of higher education. He expressed his personal commitment to overseeing all matters related to education, emphasizing the crucial role of knowledge in individual and societal life. He noted that knowledge is both vast and impactful, possessing the potential for both destruction and enlightenment.

His Highness stressed the significance of selecting university professors who are capable of fulfilling their teaching, research, and academic responsibilities effectively. It is essential for educators to masterfully convey their specialized knowledge to all students.

He further reinforced the importance of education and training, stating: “My primary concern is the educational process, followed by the teaching aspect. Knowledge knows no borders, colors, shapes, or languages; we honor this knowledge and respect both its bearers and learners because we understand its value.”

Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and Vice Chairman of the Sharjah Council for Higher Education and Scientific Research, delivered a speech expressing gratitude for His Highness’s trust and congratulated everyone on the establishment of the council. He pledged to maintain the high standards of the universities and colleges and affirmed their collective efforts under His Highness’s guidance to advance the educational process.

Additionally, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi issued a royal decree regarding the establishment and organization of the Sharjah Council for Higher Education and Scientific Research, as well as a decree concerning the formation of the council and an administrative decision to establish a permanent executive committee for the council.
