American Vice President JD Vance has emphasized that the United States is focused on preventing an escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan into a broader regional conflict, following a deadly attack last week in the Indian-administered region of Kashmir, which resulted in numerous fatalities.
In an interview with Fox News, Vance expressed his concerns whenever he witnesses a flashpoint arise, particularly between two nuclear powers.
The relationship between these two nations has deteriorated sharply in the wake of the attack, which both India and the United States have condemned as a terrorist act, according to Bloomberg News.
The Indian government has accused Pakistan of being involved in the assault and has vowed to hold those responsible accountable. Islamabad, on the other hand, has denied any connection to the incident, warning of retaliation if New Delhi undertakes military actions.
Vance noted that the United States is maintaining close communication with officials in both India and Pakistan, stating, “Our hope is that India will address this terrorist attack in a manner that does not lead to a more extensive regional conflict.”
He further mentioned that Washington wishes to see Pakistan cooperating to the fullest extent with India “to ensure the capture of terrorists who sometimes operate from their territory and address the situation.”
The attack occurred on April 22 in a tourist area near the town of Pahalgam, resulting in 26 deaths and injuring at least 17 others, the majority of whom were Indian tourists.
