The highly anticipated sequel to the iconic film, “The Devil Wears Prada,” is set to hit theaters on May 1. Fans can look forward to the return of original cast members, including Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, who reprise their beloved roles.
In recent interviews, Meryl Streep reflected on the overwhelming experience of filming the sequel amid intense fan excitement and media attention. She noted the unexpected scale of their reception, sharing, “Even though we were aware of the impact of the first film two decades ago, I think none of us were prepared for the ambush of both goodwill and avid attention that engulfed us.” Meryl emphasized the challenges the cast faced, such as needing police barriers for crowd control and dealing with enthusiastic fans and paparazzi.
Anne Hathaway also shared her own memorable experience during the shoot, recalling an incident where her heel broke mid-scene, causing her to stumble down some steps. Despite the fall, she quickly reassured her co-stars that she was fine, humorously acknowledging the awareness of being photographed while falling.
The original “The Devil Wears Prada,” released in 2006, was inspired by Lauren Weisberger’s novel about a young woman’s challenging journey in the fashion industry. Meryl Streep’s portrayal of Miranda Priestly, the formidable editor of Runway magazine, was met with critical acclaim, earning her a Golden Globe Award and an Oscar nomination.
The upcoming sequel brings back the original team, with David Frankel directing and Aline Brosh McKenna writing. It will also introduce a fresh lineup of characters, featuring well-known actors such as Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, and Lucy Liu, among others.
Produced by Wendy Finerman and executive produced by Michael Bederman, Karen Rosenfelt, and Aline Brosh McKenna, “The Devil Wears Prada 2” promises to deliver a blend of nostalgia and new narratives. Fans can catch this celebrated sequel in theaters across India starting on May 1.
