The authorities in the capital of the UAE have established new regulations aimed at maintaining the aesthetic quality of public roadways and fostering a more orderly urban landscape.
Among these regulations is a ban on placing laundry or cleaning carpets and other coverings on windows and balconies that are visible from public roads in Abu Dhabi.
The Department of Municipalities and Transport announced via X on Sunday that those found in violation could face fines and administrative penalties that may reach up to Dh2,000 for repeated offenses.

Setting up drying racks on balconies or windows facing any public road will incur a penalty of Dh500 for first-time offenders. Should the infraction occur a second time, the fine increases to Dh1,000, and it rises to Dh2,000 for further violations.
Similar fines will also apply to individuals who clean or place carpets, coverings, or other items on windows or balconies that overlook public roads.
Residents have been repeatedly cautioned against airing laundry from apartment balconies or draping items from windows or railings, as it adversely affects the visual uniformity of the city.
“Hanging laundry from balconies or windows distorts the building’s aesthetic and is prohibited,” the Abu Dhabi municipality previously stated.
Additionally, last month, Abu Dhabi established new rules and fines targeting the issue of abandoned and dirty vehicles left on the streets.
Vehicle owners will face substantial fines for leaving their cars in public locations in a manner that detracts from the overall appearance of the area, particularly if the vehicles are filthy.
