UAE Denounces the Murder of Civilians and Aid Workers in Sudan’s Darfur Camps

The United Arab Emirates has issued a strong denunciation of the violent assaults on the Zamzam and Abu Shouk camps situated near El Fasher in Darfur, as well as against relief teams and personnel active in the region.

These attacks have led to the tragic loss of life and injuries among hundreds of innocent individuals, representing a serious breach of international humanitarian law.

In an official statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its strong condemnation of all forms of violence directed at humanitarian workers who tirelessly dedicate themselves to helping those in need. The ministry emphasized that attacks on relief workers are blatant violations of international humanitarian law, which protects medical personnel and humanitarian teams. Additionally, it highlighted the critical importance of safeguarding these individuals and ensuring they are not targeted during conflicts.

The Ministry urged all belligerent parties—who seem indifferent to the suffering experienced by the Sudanese populace—to adhere to their responsibilities under international law, the Jeddah Declaration, and the protocols established by the Allied to Promote Life-Saving and Peace in Sudan (ALPS) initiative.

It further called for immediate action from all involved parties to ensure the safety of civilians and to facilitate the prompt and unhindered distribution of humanitarian aid using all available means.

The Ministry asserted that no entity has the authority to hinder the provision of life-saving assistance, underscoring that employing humanitarian efforts as a tool for military or political gain is unacceptable. In this regard, the UAE urged the United Nations to take measures to prevent any party in the conflict from misusing humanitarian assistance for such purposes.

Additionally, the Ministry reaffirmed the UAE’s stance advocating for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in Sudan, underscoring the necessity for an immediate ceasefire, and the UAE’s steadfast commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at addressing this dire humanitarian crisis and collaborating effectively with other stakeholders.
