UAE Longevity Clinics: Where Do We Draw the Line in the Quest to Reverse Ageing?

Envision a reality where aging is no longer an inevitable process, where time can be slowed, cells rejuvenated, and life spans extended. Thanks to breakthroughs in regenerative medicine, this concept is transitioning from fiction to reality. Innovative treatments such as cellular rejuvenation, gene editing, and tailored lifestyle changes are unveiling new opportunities to not only combat existing illnesses but also to prevent them. What was once deemed impossible is now leading us toward a future marked by longer and healthier lives.

This vision is increasingly feasible. Although the field is still maturing and undergoing extensive research, it is reshaping our perspectives on longevity and wellness. In 2024, Abu Dhabi inaugurated its first Healthy Longevity Medicine Centres (HLMCs) to promote health and longevity among residents. According to a report from PwC, the median age in the Gulf region is projected to rise from 32 in 2022 to 51 by the year 2100. While this may impose challenges on healthcare systems, countries in the GCC are proactively enhancing their longevity sectors.

Dr. Nas Al Jafari, co-founder of DNA Health & Wellness, asserts that public interest in maintaining youthfulness and extending life spans has reached unprecedented levels.

The Science Behind Longevity

So, what is longevity, and how does it contribute to extending your lifespan? “Longevity medicine aims to decelerate or reverse certain biological aging processes, improving health span and minimizing age-related diseases,” explains Dr. Khalid Shukri, a physician specializing in anti-aging and regenerative medicine. This can begin with straightforward lifestyle changes such as improved diet and consistent exercise.

On a deeper level, as Dr. Ruhil Badiani of Cornerstone Clinic explains, “longevity medicine targets aging at the cellular level, yielding both internal health advantages and external rejuvenation over time.”

At the wellness clinic Wellth in Dubai, a premium longevity package can cost up to $100,000 annually. This comprehensive plan includes everything from blood tests to NAD+ infusions that assist in DNA repair. Among their most luxurious offerings is gene therapy, priced anywhere from $25,000 to over $100,000. The National Organisation for Rare Diseases highlights the high costs associated with gene therapy due to extensive research that ensures safe and effective methods. Another offering at Wellth is stem cell therapy, which utilizes stem cells to treat or prevent ailments. This approach is also applied to stimulate collagen for cosmetic purposes, with sessions costing between $5,000 and $25,000 each.

“Many individuals pursue NAD+ infusions for their significant anti-aging benefits. By activating sirtuins — proteins associated with longevity and DNA repair — this treatment can diminish visible aging signs, enhance skin health, and support cellular rejuvenation.”

Dr. Ruhil Badiani

Treatments in regenerative medicine, such as stem cells, peptides, and metabolic optimization therapies like NAD+, are gaining traction. “Many people seek out NAD+ drips for their powerful anti-aging effects as well. By activating sirtuins—proteins linked to longevity and DNA repair—this treatment can slow down visible signs of aging, improve skin health, and support cellular rejuvenation,” stated Dr. Badiani. These infusions vary in price from $250 to $1,500 each and typically necessitate ongoing treatments.

Taking Control of Biology

The concept of biohacking is gaining prominence in wellness circles, and while it may sound intimidating, Dr. Elie Abirached describes it as “the process of taking charge of your own biology to optimize your feelings, performance, and aging.” The founder of Limitless Human, Dr. Abirached elaborates that biohacking differs from traditional wellness practices by being highly customized, data-driven, and focused on optimization.

Biohacking emphasizes a “do-it-yourself” approach, encouraging self-experimentation to enhance health and prolong life. It is perceived as more accessible and budget-friendly, as many aspects of biohacking involve implementing small, incremental lifestyle changes. “Biohacking is often thought of as exclusive to the affluent, but in reality, several efficacious biohacks are free or low-cost,” he mentioned. “Practices like fasting, breathwork, exposure to sunlight in the mornings, maintaining proper sleep cycles, and simple bodyweight exercises all count as forms of biohacking that incur no cost.”

Dr. Abirached’s comprehensive program includes biological age assessments, wearables to monitor progress, recovery therapies, and personalized consultations, with costs ranging from Dh3,000 to Dh10,000. Recognizing that not everyone may want to commit fully upfront, he also offers lighter and more accessible program options. Thanks to biohacking, he has seen clients notably reduce their biological age, with some reporting reversals of 10-15 years within six to twelve months.

More than Just Aesthetics

According to Dr. Shukri, longevity medicine transcends aesthetics; such benefits are merely side effects. “The focus of longevity medicine is to extend health benefits by decelerating biological aging, thwarting age-related illnesses, and enhancing overall vitality. While aesthetic improvements (like a youthful appearance, skin quality, and body composition) can be secondary outcomes of longevity treatments, the primary goal remains health-centric.”

Take Dheeraj, for instance. Struggling with a chronic illness since childhood, this 38-year-old real estate executive embraced a holistic approach to tackle his ongoing health challenges. This marked his initial foray into treatments addressing the root causes of his issues, yielding significant results. Instead of merely alleviating symptoms, he addressed the foundational origins of his pain. Alongside lifestyle modifications, he engaged in wellness therapies such as cryotherapy and ozone sauna.

Not only did these efforts heal him, but they also reversed his gastrointestinal issues, with Dheeraj experiencing over a 75% reduction in symptom severity within weeks, according to his health coach at Wellth. Common underlying causes of such conditions include a mix of poor nutrition, leaky gut, stress, toxins, and mild infections.

The Future of Living Long

The outlook for longevity medicine in the UAE is promising, with ongoing research likely to yield groundbreaking therapies that will enhance both lifespan and health span, as indicated by Dr. Badiani. She also mentioned that artificial intelligence could transform the field by allowing highly personalized treatments aimed at disease prevention and lifespan enhancement.

She added, “Concepts such as ‘longevity escape velocity,’ where life expectancy increases more rapidly than time advances, may start becoming a reality, opening up new avenues for delaying aging.”

Dr. Badiani predicts that the UAE could establish itself as a leader in longevity science, investing in innovative healthcare solutions and crafting an environment where residents can not just live longer but thrive well into their later years. According to Deep Knowledge Analytics, the UAE’s longevity sector is anticipated to reach $23 billion by 2026, growing at a compound annual growth rate of 3%.

Meanwhile, CEO of Avida Longevity, Omar Geier, believes that current discoveries are merely in the early stages, emphasizing that the most effective longevity strategies today remain the simplest: adhering to a healthy lifestyle, ensuring quality sleep, and maintaining regular physical activity.
