Rajpal Yadav, the well-known actor, has found himself in a challenging situation following a cheque-bounce case. After surrendering to authorities in Tihar Jail, his bail hearing was adjourned, prompting commentary from filmmaker Priyadarshan, who has a long-standing professional relationship with Yadav.
Priyadarshan, currently busy with the post-production of his upcoming film “Bhooth Bangla,” expressed his concern for Yadav. He revealed in an interview that he has known the actor for over 20 years, first experiencing Yadav’s talent in the film “Jungle” in 2000. Since then, they have collaborated on multiple projects, including “Malamaal Weekly” and more. The filmmaker mentioned that he has advocated for higher pay for Yadav in light of his current circumstances, convincing the film’s producers to compensate him above his standard fee. This support highlights Priyadarshan’s commitment to helping Yadav during this difficult time.
In his remarks, Priyadarshan acknowledged Yadav’s struggles, attributing some of the challenges to his educational background. He described Yadav as a good person who made a significant mistake that led to his current predicament. The concerns were not just personal, but also financial, as the complications arose from a significant debt incurred by Yadav.
Rajpal Yadav’s legal troubles stem from a case dating back to 2010 when he borrowed ₹5 crore from Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to finance his directorial debut, “Ata Pata Laapata.” The film’s failure resulted in major losses, leading to a prolonged financial dispute. In 2018, Yadav was convicted of cheque dishonor under the Negotiable Instruments Act, a verdict upheld by a higher court in 2019. As the legal proceedings continued, the outstanding amount ballooned to nearly ₹9 crore.
Since Yadav’s incarceration, several prominent figures in the entertainment industry have come forward to offer support. Notably, Sonu Sood was among the first to publicly extend his assistance, with others like Gurmeet Choudhary, Guru Randhawa, and Mika Singh also expressing willingness to help financially. The collective response illustrates the solidarity within the film community and highlights the impact of Yadav’s situation on his peers.
