Unveiling Prue Leith: The Secret Marriage to Her Mother’s Best Friend’s Husband

Prue Leith has announced her decision to step down as a judge from the popular show, The Great British Bake Off. After nine seasons and judging over 400 challenges, this marks a significant transition in her career. Leith, who became part of the show in 2017, previously replaced Mary Berry following its move to Channel 4.

Born on February 18, 1940, Dame Prudence Margaret Leith is a renowned South African and British restaurateur. She has made her mark not only as a television personality but also as a cookery writer, novelist, and former university administrator. Before joining The Great British Bake Off, Prue was a judge on BBC Two’s Great British Menu for eleven years, further showcasing her influence in the culinary world.

Leith’s personal life reveals a complex love story. Her first marriage was to Rayne Kruger, who was initially married to her mother’s friend, actress Nan Munro. This unusual situation led to a secret 13-year affair between Leith and Kruger, which began when she was in her twenties. Prue has spoken candidly about the challenges of hiding their relationship and the love she had for both Rayne and Nan.

In her reflections, Leith described her relationship with Kruger fondly, despite acknowledging the moral complexities involved. She expressed that they never discussed marriage or separation from Nan Munro, as she cherished their family dynamic. At the time, Prue was content with her burgeoning restaurant career, with Kruger playing a supportive role as the chairman of her company.

Their relationship culminated in marriage in 1974, lasting until Kruger’s death in 2002. Prue found herself heartbroken after his passing, particularly during the evenings when they would share moments together. She recounted her routine of meeting Rayne for a drink at 7 PM, which became a poignant reminder of the life they had shared.

In 2016, Prue Leith remarried, this time to John Playfair, who she affectionately refers to as her “toyboy.” Their relationship exemplifies a new chapter in her life, offering companionship after her years with Kruger. Through both love and loss, Prue Leith continues to navigate her journey with a blend of resilience and humor, confirming her place in the public eye as a beloved figure in the culinary industry.
