Viral Video Sparks Debate: Are Dhurandhar and Satya Too Similar

The release of “Dhurandhar,” featuring Ranveer Singh, on December 5, 2025, has generated significant buzz in the film industry. As viewers delve into the story, various revelations about the film’s narrative have emerged. Recently, a viral video has sparked discussions, suggesting that this crime drama mirrors elements from the 1998 classic “Satya,” directed by Ram Gopal Varma.

The viral reel showcases scenes from “Dhurandhar” that bear striking resemblances to those in “Satya.” Both films follow protagonists who, upon arriving in the city, face violence from local thugs and subsequently align with criminal factions. In both narratives, these characters, Hamza and Satya, retaliate against their attackers, leading to conflicts within the gang as they disregard orders from their superiors.

Examining the characters, the antagonist in “Dhurandhar,” Rehman Dakait, portrayed by Akshaye Khanna, shares similarities with Bhiku Mhatre from “Satya,” played by Manoj Bajpayee. The monologues and tragic fates of both characters fuel further comparisons, as both are ultimately betrayed by colleagues in the criminal underworld.

“Dhurandhar,” while fictional, incorporates elements inspired by real-life events. The film includes references to incidents such as the 1999 Indian Airlines Flight IC-814 hijacking, where hijackers demanded the release of terrorists and financial ransom, resulting in the loss of two lives during the ordeal.

Moreover, several characters in “Dhurandhar” are loosely based on real individuals. Khanna’s Rehman Dakait is inspired by Sardar Abdul Rehman Baloch, a notorious gangster in Karachi who was killed in a police confrontation in 2009. Sanjay Dutt’s character, SP Chaudhary Aslam, is based on a genuine police officer recognized for his courageous encounters with criminals.

The success of “Dhurandhar” has paved the way for a sequel, “Dhurandhar 2,” slated for release on March 19, 2026. This upcoming installment aims to deepen the storyline and feature a darker theme. The original cast, including Singh, R. Madhavan, and Sanjay Dutt, will return, and Khanna is expected to appear in flashbacks. The sequel is anticipated to explore the real-life background of Singh’s character, Jaskirat Singh Rangi.

What are your thoughts on the parallels between “Dhurandhar” and “Satya”?
