On Saturday evening, WhatsApp experienced technical difficulties that affected numerous users in the UAE, as indicated by the outage monitoring platform Downdetector. Reports indicated that the issue peaked at 482 complaints by 7 PM local time.
Users faced challenges with essential features, including message delivery and status updates. One user shared with a local news outlet that while she could send messages to individual contacts, her messages to group chats were not being delivered.
Additionally, users in India also reported similar problems with WhatsApp, where they were unable to send messages or update their statuses.
Downdetector noted that there were approximately 1,743 outage reports from users in India by 8:30 PM IST.
WhatsApp has yet to release an official response regarding the outage.
This incident follows a similar wave of issues reported by UAE users on February 28.
Many residents took to downdetector.ae to report their struggles with the messaging platform.
