Following an Israeli attack on strategic locations in Tehran and other regions, Iran has announced the appointment of Habibollah Sayyari as the new Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, succeeding Mohammad Bagheri. Additionally, Ahmad Vahidi has been appointed as the new commander of the Revolutionary Guard, taking over from Hossein Salami.
According to various Iranian sources and news agencies, Mohammad Bagheri, the former Chief of Staff, and Hossein Salami, the previous commander of the Revolutionary Guard, were killed in the attack. Also among the casualties were Major General Gholam Ali Rashid, commander of the Khatam al-Anbia Base, and nuclear scientists Mohammad Mehdi Tehranji and Fereydoun Abbasi. Reports indicate that Ali Shamkhani, a senior advisor to the Supreme Leader, was severely injured.

Habibollah Sayyari holds a doctorate and has served for 75 months during the Iran-Iraq War, where he sustained injuries. According to Iranian sources, Sayyari led the training for the Marine Corps in the city of Manjil. He also commanded the first Marine brigade in Bandar Abbas and was appointed as Deputy Commander of the First Naval Region. Furthermore, he led specialized naval training in Rasht and served in the Fourth Naval Region of the Iranian Navy.
Sayyari previously held the position of Deputy Coordinating Assistant and was involved as a military advisor as well as Deputy Director for Administrative Affairs and Combat Support within the Joint Staff of the Iranian Army. In 2005, he became the Deputy Commander of the Navy and later took command of the Navy in 2007, serving as an aide to the Army Coordinator.
