Will ABC Take Action on Jimmy Kimmel Following Melania Trump’s Request

Jimmy Kimmel is again at the center of controversy following his remarks during a parody segment of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. His jokes drew the ire of First Lady Melania Trump, who publicly requested ABC to take action against the late-night host. The tension escalated after a series of violent incidents took place during the actual event, prompting both Melania and Donald Trump to express their discontent.

In response to the criticism, Donald Trump and Melania Trump called for ABC to remove Kimmel from the airwaves. However, as of now, the network has not indicated any intention to suspend or terminate his contract, which is set to run until April 2026. The silence from ABC comes despite increasing public pressure and past instances where Kimmel faced consequences for similar conduct.

After Kimmel returned to the network following a previous suspension in September 2025, he signed a contract extension that guarantees the continuation of his show through 2027. This means that unless there is immediate action taken, Kimmel’s show will remain on air. During the controversial segment, Kimmel referred to Melania Trump as an “expectant widow,” comments which were initially perceived as humorous but have gained new scrutiny in light of recent events.

The backlash intensified after clips of Kimmel’s joke circulated widely on social media, leading to divided opinions. While some criticized his remarks as crossing a line, others defended them as political satire. Melania Trump took to social media to accuse Kimmel of promoting divisiveness, echoing a sentiment expressed by her husband in a different post.

Melania labelled Kimmel’s humor as hateful and corrosive, asserting that they contribute to a broader political sickness in America. She expressed her belief that shows like his should not perpetuate what she views as harmful rhetoric. In her remarks, she called Kimmel a “coward” for hiding behind ABC, prompting calls for the network to take a definitive stance against him.

The controversy surrounding Kimmel’s comments coincided with alarming incidents at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, where a man attempted to breach security at the event. Accused of carrying weapons, the suspect injured a Secret Service agent before being detained. Whether or not there is any connection between Kimmel’s remarks and the actions of the suspect remains unclear, but the timing of the joke has sparked significant debate.

Despite the uproar, Kimmel has maintained his position as one of America’s prominent late-night hosts for over 20 years. He began his career with programs like “The Man Show” and “Win Ben Stein’s Money” before launching “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on ABC in 2003. His ability to intertwine comedy with political discourse has elevated his visibility but also drawn criticism, especially as he often critiques figures like Donald Trump and Republican politics.

As this situation unfolds, many are left pondering ABC’s approach in handling Kimmel’s criticism. Will the network respond to the pressure for action, or will they continue to stand by their host? The future of Kimmel’s show may hang in the balance as public sentiment shifts and reactions to his humor evolve.
