Anupam Kher Defends Dhurandhar’s Triumph Against Propaganda Claims

Anupam Kher has voiced his thoughts on the recent success of the film Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar and starring prominent actors Ranveer Singh and Akshaye Khanna. Kher’s reaction emphasizes that the film’s achievement serves as a rebuttal to those labeling it as mere propaganda.

In his recent social media posts, Kher congratulated Dhar for the film’s accomplishment, highlighting the peace and pride he feels. Despite not being involved in the film, he expressed a deep connection to its success, describing it as a significant moment in cinema history. Kher pointed out the importance of recognizing films that become landmarks, akin to classics like Godfather and Sholay.

The actor remarked on the significance of filmmakers like Aditya Dhar, who pursue their vision without adhering to industry formulas or trends. Kher praised Dhar’s courage and conviction, noting that his approach contributes to the originality of the film.

Addressing criticisms labeling Dhurandhar as propaganda, Kher recounted how a specific group of individuals previously branded his own film, The Accidental Prime Minister, in a similar manner. He stressed that such claims often stem from a desire to undermine artistic expression for personal agendas. According to Kher, Dhurandhar serves as a powerful retort to these critics.

He articulated a sense of pride in how the film has impacted public discourse, stating that it challenges those who attempt to diminish art. Kher’s emotions were echoed by Dhar, who responded to his praise with gratitude, reflecting on the responsibility filmmakers hold to create honest and impactful narratives.

Dhurandhar, now dubbed the top film of 2025, debuted on December 5 and quickly garnered over ₹1000 crore at the box office within three weeks. The narrative follows an Indian spy infiltrating a dangerous Baloch gang in Pakistan. In addition to Singh and Khanna, the film features a talented ensemble cast that includes Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal. The sequel, Dhurandhar 2, is set to hit theaters on March 19, 2026.
