Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo Unveil Two New Tracks from ‘Wicked’

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo are gearing up to captivate audiences once again in the upcoming film “Wicked: For Good.” Following the recent release of its trailer, the actresses showcased a sneak peek of two new songs during NBC’s One Wonderful Night special.

The trailer hints at a dramatic confrontation between their characters, Glinda and Elphaba. Directed by Jon M. Chu, this sequel aims to build on the remarkable legacy of the original, which saw notable performances from actors like Michelle Yeoh and Jonathan Bailey.

At the NBC event, Grande delighted fans with a snippet of Glinda’s song “The Girl in the Bubble,” while Erivo shared a poignant performance of “No Place Like Home.” Both tracks, composed by award-winning lyricist Stephen Schwartz, explore the complexity of their characters’ emotions. Elphaba’s ballad reflects her longing for Oz amid past hardships, while Glinda’s song delves into her inner conflict between her friendship with Elphaba and her ties to the citizens of Oz.

The stage was also filled with other cast members such as Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, and Bowen Yang, enhancing the event’s excitement. Besides the musical previews, the audience received a glimpse behind the scenes at the film’s elaborate sets inspired by the Land of Oz.

The first film grossed $750 million globally, marking it as the highest-grossing adaptation from stage to screen.

As for the upcoming sequel, the storyline will follow Elphaba as she continues her battle for the rights of Oz’s marginalized creatures after being labeled the Wicked Witch. Meanwhile, Glinda has ascended to a position of fame and glamour in the Emerald City, embodying the ideals of goodness.
