Avinash Tiwary, known for his compelling performances, has garnered significant attention in the film industry. Since his breakout role in “Laila Majnu,” the actor has built a successful career with hits like “Madgaon Express” and collaborations on larger projects, including “O Romeo.” His upcoming film, “Ginny Wedss Sunny 2,” marks another important step in his career as he takes on the role of a pehelwan (Indian wrestler). Interestingly, despite his shirtless scenes, Tiwary reveals that he doesn’t receive as much female attention as one might expect.
During a conversation with Hindustan Times, Tiwary reflected on his evolving career and the public perception of his roles. When questioned about a perceived trend of producers requesting shirtless scenes, Tiwary playfully asserted that he has only appeared without a shirt in two films, though his co-star Medha Shankr pointed out that “Madgaon Express” adds to that count. He clarified that these portrayals are less about allure and more about character, as seen in “O Romeo.”
Surprisingly, Tiwary notes that he receives more messages from men regarding his physique than from women. “I think I got more (social media) DMs from men for that than from women,” he remarked, showing that the male audience appreciates his dedication to fitness. Reflecting on his earlier work in “Laila Majnu,” he acknowledged that the romantic plot drew more female attention, contrasting it with his current, more muscular role.
In “Ginny Wedss Sunny 2,” Tiwary’s character embodies a pehelwan, leading to scenarios that naturally include shirtless scenes in the akhara (wrestling arena). He humorously expressed a desire to create a more traditionally desirable scene where he emerges from a pool, aiming to catch the attention of women.
Regarding his personal life, Tiwary touched upon the topic of marriage. He admits to feeling the pressure to marry, particularly as society and family often emphasize the traditional milestones of life. “Before family, I had put pressure on myself to get married,” he shared, acknowledging his past desires for a family and children. However, as time passed, he adapted to new life goals and ambitions.
Despite his belief in marriage, Tiwary notes a societal shift where marriage is viewed differently today. “The society we are living in today, in that, marriages will become only important if you want a family and kids. Then you need this institution of marriage, because it provides that,” he explained. Reflecting on his past desires, he confessed, “I wouldn’t have minded getting married 5-10 years ago, because I was in that space.”
Directed by Prasshant Jha, “Ginny Wedss Sunny 2” serves as a spiritual sequel to “Ginny Weds Sunny,” which was released in 2020. The film features a diverse cast, including Medha Shankr, Sudhir Pandey, Lillete Dubey, and Govind Namdev, with a theatrical release scheduled for April 24.
