Deepika Padukone recently celebrated her 40th birthday on January 5 and took the opportunity to connect with fans ahead of her special day. During a fan meet, a video captured her expressing enthusiasm about the possibility of starring in a romantic comedy, with fans calling out for her to partner with various leading actors.
When asked about her interest in a rom-com, Deepika shared her desire to take on such a project. She stated, “I really hope very, very soon. As you all know, it is also one of my favourite genres, as an audience, and also as an actor.” She acknowledged that while she feels the audience is now looking for different themes, the strong demand for romantic comedies is evident.
Fans at the event had their own preferences, with some calling for her to co-star with Hrithik Roshan or Shah Rukh Khan. However, it was her husband, Ranveer Singh, who garnered the loudest cheers from the crowd. The host even engaged the audience in a lighthearted poll about their preferred leading man for Deepika’s hypothetical rom-com, with the results clearly favoring Ranveer.
Deepika also addressed the current state of the film industry regarding romantic comedies, hinting that producers and writers are reluctant to invest in this genre. She commented, “This is something that even my team and I keep looking out for constantly. But I feel like there are very few producers backing that kind of content or very few writing that right now.”
Before this fan meet, Deepika was last seen in high-profile projects like “Fighter,” “Kalki 2898 AD,” and “Singham Again,” all set for release in 2024. Looking ahead, she is set to star in Siddharth Anand’s “King” alongside Shah Rukh Khan, as well as in a yet-to-be-titled film by Atlee with Allu Arjun. Additionally, the couple welcomed their daughter, Dua, in September 2024.
