Dhanush Faces Legal Issues as Production House Seeks ₹20 Crore Compensation

Actor Dhanush is facing legal challenges following a notice from Thenandal Films regarding a project that has been delayed for several years. The production house is reportedly seeking ₹20 crore in compensation, citing substantial financial losses due to the prolonged postponement of the film.

Reports indicate that the legal notice stems from an agreement signed in 2016 for the film “Naan Rudran,” which Dhanush has not progressed with. According to sources, the actor was supposed to both star in and direct the project but failed to deliver a complete screenplay, resulting in the film’s stagnation.

The production company claims to have invested ₹20 crore as an advance and incurred additional costs for other actors, including Nagarjuna Akkineni and SJ Suryah, who were slated to join Dhanush in the cast. They assert that the ongoing delay has severely impacted their finances and are now seeking restitution to recover their initial investments.

The legal counsel for Thenandal Films, A Chidambaram, stated that the project has been stalled due to Dhanush prioritizing other films over completing his commitments for “Naan Rudran.” The notice hints at potential further legal action if the demands for compensation are not met promptly.

As of now, Dhanush has not publicly addressed the situation and has remained silent regarding the ongoing controversy.

On a different note, Dhanush’s recent film appearances include roles in “Kuberaa,” “Idli Kadai,” and “Tere Ishk Mein,” released in 2025. “Tere Ishk Mein,” a romantic drama featuring Kriti Sanon, garnered mixed reviews but achieved a worldwide box office collection of ₹161.96 crore. The story revolves around Shankar, whose life takes a dramatic turn after a heartbreaking breakup.

Looking ahead, Dhanush is set to star in Vignesh Raja’s “Kara,” which is expected to hit theaters this summer, though a specific release date has yet to be confirmed. He also has another upcoming project, tentatively titled “D55,” which will be directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, known for his work in the Amaran film industry.
