YouTuber Dhruv Rathee has taken a strong stance against filmmaker Aditya Dhar and his latest project, “Dhurandhar: The Revenge,” in a recent video. Previously, Rathee criticized the film as ‘brainrot’ and maintained that it tries to distort the realities that many Indian citizens have faced.
In the video titled “Dhurandhar 2 Exposed – What They Don’t Show You,” Rathee argues that the film not only insults the nation but also diminishes its people. He highlights a disclaimer in the film stating that it is a ‘fictional work inspired by real events,’ referring to it as a “legal cheat code.” Rathee sarcastically suggests that it might have been more accurate to label it as being “inspired by WhatsApp forwards” instead.
Focusing on a key theme of the film, Rathee criticizes its portrayal of demonetisation, depicting it as a masterstroke. He questions the rationale behind such a significant action for what he describes as a minor issue, urging viewers to think critically about the context. Citing research and Reserve Bank of India reports, he elaborates on the negative impacts of demonetisation, including the distressing death toll and health issues faced by those waiting in ATM queues during that tumultuous period.
Moreover, Rathee raises concerns regarding the legality of creating content that casts a national political party in a negative light. He queries the Election Commission and the Supreme Court on whether films that blend fact with fiction to promote specific political figures can be made without repercussions. He warns that if these practices are permitted, it may pave the way for similar content in the future aimed at attacking the same parties.
“Dhurandhar” is classified as a spy thriller inspired by actual events, showcasing the journey of an Indian spy embedded within Pakistani gangs to dismantle their terrorist networks. The film features a notable cast, including Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, and Sanjay Dutt.
Its sequel, “Dhurandhar: The Revenge,” chronicles the ascent of Singh’s character, Hamza Ali Mazari, in the Karachi underworld while exploring his origins as Jaskirat Singh Rangi. This sequel has achieved significant box office success, surpassing the ₹1000 crore mark globally.
