Dhurandhar 2 Achieves Major Box Office Milestone
Aditya Dhar’s latest spy thriller, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, has accomplished a remarkable feat, surpassing the ₹1600 crore mark at the global box office just 18 days post its release. Despite being in its third weekend since the March 19 launch, the film experienced a significant boost in its collections over the past weekend.
Dhurandhar 2 has garnered impressive ticket sales since its debut. Producer Jio Studios reported that the film earned ₹690 crore in its first week and an additional ₹271 crore in the second week. The collection for the third weekend included ₹23 crore on Friday, ₹27 crore on Saturday, and ₹30 crore on Sunday, pushing its total earnings in India to a net of ₹1041 crore and a gross of ₹1228 crore. The overseas revenue, tallying at ₹394 crore, brings its worldwide gross to a staggering ₹1622 crore.
The film is now positioned in competition with some of the highest-grossing Indian movies of all time. To date, only Dangal, Pushpa 2: The Rule, and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion stand ahead of Dhurandhar 2 in the charts, with Dangal grossing over ₹2000 crore, Pushpa 2 at over ₹1871 crore, and Baahubali 2 close to ₹1788 crore. Notably, the original Dhurandhar film achieved over ₹1300 crore globally, and the sequel has swiftly surpassed this figure. Having eclipsed other popular films such as RRR, Jawan, Pathaan, and KGF 2, it remains to be seen whether Dhurandhar 2 can ascend to the top of the box office rankings.
Overview of Dhurandhar 2
Dhurandhar: The Revenge is a collaborative effort involving writer, director, and producer Aditya Dhar, along with Lokesh Dhar and Jyoti Deshpande from Jio Studios and B62 Studios. The film features a talented ensemble cast, including Ranveer Singh, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, and others. Like its predecessor, Dhurandhar 2 faced bans in Gulf countries and Pakistan but was successfully released in other markets.
The narrative centers on Indian spy Jaskirat Singh Rangi, portrayed by Ranveer Singh, who is enlisted by IB director Ajay Sanyal, played by R Madhavan, to participate in a covert anti-terror operation in Pakistan. The film incorporates real-life events, such as the Kandahar hijacking and the 26/11 terror attacks, showcasing the operations undertaken by Ajay and his team to ensure national security. While it received mixed reviews, particularly regarding accusations of propaganda, its box office success speaks to the audience’s interest and engagement with the story.
