Ranveer Singh’s latest film, “Dhurandhar,” has made a significant impact at the box office since its release on December 5. This spy action thriller directed by Aditya Dhar has garnered positive reviews from both critics and audiences, underlining its strong debut performance.
On its opening day, “Dhurandhar” earned ₹28 crore in India, outperforming expectations. The following day, the film saw a substantial increase, collecting ₹32 crore and bringing its total gross to ₹59 crore. By the end of its third day, the film further accelerated its earnings, taking in ₹43 crore on Sunday, pushing its overall collection to over ₹100 crore.
As of now, the domestic box office total stands at ₹103 crore. This impressive figure positions “Dhurandhar” as one of Ranveer Singh’s most successful opening weekends, surpassing his previous hits such as “Padmaavat” (₹78 crore), “Simmba” (₹75.11 crore), and “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani” (₹46.81 crore). The film’s strong performance is credited to effective word-of-mouth promotion.
“Dhurandhar” tells the story of an Indian operative infiltrating a terrorist network in Pakistan, based on true events from the early 2000s. The film features an ensemble cast, including Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, and R. Madhavan, alongside Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi. The performances have been well-received, particularly Akshaye Khanna’s role as Rehman Dakait and Ranveer Singh’s portrayal of Hamza. R. Madhavan’s physical transformation for the role has also attracted attention.
Critics note that “Dhurandhar” operates effectively as a character study within a larger espionage narrative. While the storytelling has been described as detailed and elaborate, some suggest it could have benefited from a more concise runtime. A review from Hindustan Times highlights that with a reduction of thirty minutes, the film could achieve greater impact, but it remains a watchable experience.
