Ekta Kapoor Expresses Surprise as Akshay Kumar Returns Cheque for Flop Film

The anticipation around Priyadarshan’s new film Bhooth Bangla continues to grow as the trailer was released on Monday. Starring Akshay Kumar in the lead role, the film represents a long-awaited collaboration between the veteran director and actor. Producer Ekta Kapoor expressed her excitement during the trailer launch event, sharing that she has eagerly wanted to work with Akshay again for several years.

Ekta, a well-known figure in the industry, spoke about her unique experience with Akshay. She recounted a past incident when he returned a cheque for a film that did not perform well, stating, “He’s the only actor who called me up…you’ve lost money.” This gesture, she remarked, is unprecedented in her three-decade career, emphasizing the rarity of such an act in the film industry.

When offered the cheque, Ekta was taken aback, reflecting on how uncommon such behavior is. Recalling her response, she said, “I said no. Please do another film with me. I’ll earn a lot more from that.” This interaction ultimately paved the way for the making of Bhooth Bangla, although she did not specify which film the cheque was for. However, it’s worth noting that Ekta and Akshay teamed up in the 2013 movie Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara!

Bhooth Bangla is set to be a comedy infused with horror and features an impressive cast, including Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Tabu, and Wamiqa Gabbi. The story revolves around a man who inherits a seemingly haunted bungalow and faces additional challenges when he attempts to marry in a village known for its fears of a malevolent entity known as Vadhusur. The film promises chaos as it explores themes of love and fear.

Originally scheduled for release on April 10, Bhooth Bangla was postponed and is now set to premiere in theaters on April 17, with paid previews starting at 9 PM on April 16. The dialogues are penned by Rohan Shankar, and the narrative is crafted by Aakash Kaushik. With a blend of humor and horror, the film aims to entertain audiences while showcasing familiar faces in a new light.
