Govinda Asserts No Actor Has a Flawless Reputation, Citing Legends

Bollywood actor Govinda has taken a significant step back from the film industry in recent years. Although he still makes occasional appearances on reality TV shows and special events, he has not featured in any films for the past six years. His absence has not shielded him from controversies surrounding his personal life.

In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, Govinda addressed the ongoing controversies associated with his name, commenting on how his situation is not unique in the film industry. He pointed out that many other actors experience similar challenges, indicating a broader pattern of reputation management in Bollywood.

During their conversation, Govinda remarked, “Whose name is spotless in this line? Are you mad? One who has a spotless name must be a dangerous person.” He expressed that having a clean reputation could signify that an individual is under threat or scrutiny, and he suggested that everyone’s name eventually faces some tarnishing, usually due to the pressures of the industry.

The actor elaborated further, discussing esteemed figures in cinema such as Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna. He highlighted that even Bachchan, a renowned figure and considered a perfect actor, faced a hiatus of 14-15 years. Govinda questioned the reasons behind such absences, suggesting it was indicative of deeper issues within the industry’s dynamics. He recalled how Khanna, once at the peak of his career, also faced public criticism that contributed to his downfall.

Govinda noted that these ups and downs are typical phases that actors must navigate, stating, “It’s a phase you have to go through. How you come out of it, that’s the game.” He cited Aamir Khan as another example, explaining how Khan’s early reputation shifted remarkably over time, eventually being heralded as the ‘perfectionist’ of Bollywood.

On a different note, Govinda reminisced about his illustrious career and the films that marked his success, such as “Raja Babu,” “Coolie No. 1,” and “Partner.” Once a dominant star in the 90s, his career saw a decline in the early 2000s, with his last film, “Rangeela Raja,” released in 2019.

In his personal life, Govinda recently attracted media attention following rumors regarding a divorce from his wife, Sunita Ahuja. Though the couple faced challenges—with Sunita reportedly filing for divorce six months prior—official statements indicate that they have managed to reconcile their differences.
