Dharmendra Kewal Krishan Deol, a revered figure in Indian cinema, has been honored with the Padma Vibhushan award posthumously. This honor recognizes his significant contributions to the film industry, a milestone that has received widespread appreciation.
Hema Malini, Dharmendra’s close associate and wife, expressed her gratitude on X, celebrating his legacy. She remarked on the pride felt due to the government’s acknowledgment of his contributions.
Starting his career in 1960 with “Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere,” Dharmendra initially took on supporting roles. His breakthrough came with the 1965 war film “Haqeeqat,” solidifying his status as a box office star. Over the years, he starred in multiple successful films, including “Anupama,” “Sholay,” and “Seeta Aur Geeta,” becoming a dominant figure in Bollywood from the ’60s to ’80s.
He continued to be active in the industry until his final appearance in “Ikkis,” which was released earlier this year. His legacy remains influential, rooted in a career that spans more than six decades.
Dharmendra passed away on November 24, leaving behind a significant impact on the film industry. At 89, he succumbed to health issues after being discharged from Breach Candy Hospital earlier in November. His cremation took place the following day in Mumbai.
A prayer meet organized by his sons, Sunny and Bobby Deol, attracted numerous notable personalities from the film world, including Salman Khan and Amitabh Bachchan. However, Hema Malini and their daughters did not attend this gathering, opting instead to hold a separate prayer meeting at their home.
Dharmendra’s family includes his two wives; he first married Prakash Kaur in 1954, with whom he had four children. His second marriage to Hema Malini in 1980 produced two daughters, Esha and Ahana Deol. His life and work continue to be celebrated, highlighting his enduring influence in Indian cinema.
