Hema Malini Reflects on Dharmendra’s BAFTA Tribute: ‘I Miss Him Daily’

The 79th British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) were particularly meaningful for the Indian entertainment community this year. Not only did the Manipuri film “Boong” win the award for Best Children’s and Family Film, but the awards ceremony also paid tribute to the late Indian superstar Dharmendra. His wife, Hema Malini, expressed her thoughts on the homage during a recent interview.

In her conversation with Subhash K. Jha for Variety India, Hema Malini described the tribute as “heartening.” She reflected on Dharmendra’s global appeal, noting, “He was someone whose presence went beyond borders.” She shared fond memories of him being warmly greeted by fans during their travels, even though their trips were primarily for film shoots, allowing them precious time together.

The impact of Dharmendra’s passing continues to resonate with Hema, who candidly stated, “I miss him every single minute. I keep asking myself, is he really gone? When will I meet him again?” Her heartfelt sentiments underline the deep bond shared between the couple.

This year’s BAFTA ceremony also showcased Indian talent, particularly when Alia Bhatt presented an award in Hindi, capturing the attention of viewers. Furthermore, “Boong,” produced by Farhan Akhtar, received recognition as the Best Children’s and Family Film. The ceremony’s In Memoriam segment paid homage to Dharmendra, touching many fans deeply, while also recognizing other notable figures in the film industry.

Dharmendra’s death in November 2025 came as a shock to many. Initially hospitalized, rumors regarding his health circulated but were dispelled by family members. Ultimately, he passed away at his home in Mumbai, with his family present for his cremation.

He leaves behind two wives, Prakash Kaur and Hema Malini, along with six children, including actors Bobby Deol, Sunny Deol, and Esha Deol. Following his death, speculation emerged about tensions between Hema Malini and Sunny’s family, but Hema promptly refuted those claims. Esha Deol further demonstrated family unity by attending a screening of Sunny’s film “Border 2” and posing for photographs with him.
