Rapper Honey Singh has opened up about his past struggles with drug addiction, expressing regret over this chapter of his life. In a recent interview, he revealed that it took him nearly eight years to fully cleanse his body of drugs, describing the experience as profoundly damaging.
During his conversation with NDTV, Honey reflected on how addiction impacted his ambitions and personal relationships. He stated, “The Honey Singh 15-20 years back was also very intelligent and ambitious, but he did one big mistake which was to do drugs.” He cautioned younger audiences against substance use, emphasizing that the detrimental effects can creep up on individuals without their realization. After his diagnosis in 2014, he made the pivotal decision to quit drugs, but the recovery process proved to be a challenging journey.
At the height of his career, specifically between 2012 and 2014, Honey admitted to avoiding family interactions. He only met his parents a handful of times during this period, driven by a desire to shield them from the truth of his addiction. Fame and the allure of success overshadowed his family connections, resulting in a painful estrangement.
Honey Singh’s battle with addiction began during a time of immense popularity. Following his breakthrough with the hit song “Desi Kalakaar,” he faced a downward spiral, compounded by a diagnosis of bipolar disorder. His struggles escalated during his 2017 tour, where he ultimately broke down and chose to step away from music to focus on recovery. He described moments of losing control, recalling instances where substance use led to alarming behavior.
Since stepping back from the limelight, Honey Singh made a comeback in 2023 with his new track “Kalaastar,” which serves as a sequel to “Desi Kalakaar,” featuring actor Sonakshi Sinha. Looking ahead, he has plans to globalize his music through the upcoming “My Story World Tour,” set to launch in Dubai on February 6, 2026, at the Coca-Cola Arena. Additionally, he recently released an album titled “51 Glorious Days,” aiming to share his music with a broader audience.
