Rajeev Shukla, a Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP, recently shared his perspectives on the political involvement of two prominent Bollywood figures, Jaya Bachchan and Rekha. He highlighted their different approaches to their roles in the political arena during a recent podcast appearance.
Shukla described Jaya Bachchan as a strict individual who does not shy away from confronting ministers when necessary. He noted her forthrightness in Parliament, stating, “If she feels that someone is being even a bit undisciplined, she won’t tolerate it.” This commitment to discipline has earned her a reputation for speaking her mind, particularly when she identifies issues that require attention.
Furthermore, Jaya has maintained a strong presence in Parliament, regularly attending sessions and taking part in debates. According to Shukla, she stands out among her peers for her impressive attendance record, which underscores her dedication to her political responsibilities.
In contrast, Rekha’s involvement in politics has been more limited. Shukla pointed out her sporadic attendance, explaining that she has only participated once per session since taking her oath as a Member of Parliament. He emphasized that while Jaya has fully embraced her political career, Rekha has not adopted a similar level of engagement.
The political journeys of these two actresses have been intriguing. Jaya Bachchan was first elected to the Rajya Sabha by the Samajwadi Party in 2004, serving multiple terms and actively participating in parliamentary debates. On the other hand, Rekha took her oath as an MP in 2012 but has remained largely inactive in parliamentary discussions, drawing attention to their differing levels of involvement in governance.
Shukla also touched upon the overall approach of other personalities in politics, including Jaya Prada, who, according to him, is making strides in her political career despite facing limited opportunities. In contrast, he mentioned that other figures, like Sachin Tendulkar and Lata Mangeshkar, demonstrated a more reserved approach by not utilizing the privileges available to them as members of Parliament.
These insights reveal the varying degrees of political engagement among Bollywood celebrities, with Jaya Bachchan embodying a more robust and disciplined role compared to Rekha’s passive participation.
