Maruthi Commits to Next Film Following The Raja Saab Box Office Struggles

Prabhas’ much-anticipated film, The Raja Saab, debuted in 2026, marking a significant moment as it was marketed as the first pan-India blockbuster of the year. Despite a strong opening at the box office, the film ultimately failed to meet expectations due to overwhelmingly negative reviews. Three months post-release, director Maruthi reached out to fans on social media to announce his next project.

On the occasion of Rama Navami, Maruthi shared a personal message alongside a photo that showcased him in front of idols at his home, with his upcoming script laid out beneath marigold flowers. In his post, he expressed gratitude for the learning experiences throughout his journey. He emphasized, “Every journey is a learning experience. On this auspicious occasion of #SriRamaNavami, I’m grateful to be giving final touches to my next script with His blessings.”

He also extended his heartfelt thanks to his audience, supporters, and the media for their unwavering backing and constructive feedback. Maruthi acknowledged the importance of their support and assured fans of his dedication to regaining their trust with his future endeavors. However, further details regarding the cast and storyline of his next film remain undisclosed.

The Raja Saab, which faced a significant commercial setback, was produced on a notably high budget of ₹400 crore. Prior to its release, Maruthi expressed confidence in the film, asserting that it would offer a new and memorable experience of Prabhas to audiences nationwide. He mentioned, “The Telugu audience has seen the entertaining version of Prabhas. But Pan India has never. After coming out of the theatre, you will remember Prabhas from this film for many years.”

Despite a successful opening day grossing ₹100 crore worldwide, the film’s earnings quickly declined in subsequent days, ultimately bringing its total to around ₹200 crore. This led to an estimated national box-office loss of ₹160-170 crore. The film featured notable performances from actors Niddhi Agerwal, Malavika Mohanan, and Riddhi Kumar and was released in theaters on January 9.
