In the fast-paced entertainment industry, periods of inactivity can be particularly challenging for artists. Recently, Neha Dhupia shared her experiences regarding the emotional toll of being out of work during an interview with Bollywood Hungama. Her insights shed light on the often-overlooked struggles faced by actors when they find themselves without projects.
During the conversation, Neha revealed her battle with anxiety during times of unemployment. “I do get anxiety when I’m not working,” she admitted. Despite two decades in the industry, she still finds herself overwhelmed. Neha recounted a recent episode where she found solace by crying into her pillow. While she loves the film industry, the uncertainty and judgment that comes with it can be quite taxing.
Neha noted that actors are frequently encouraged to develop a thick skin; however, the reality is that every setback can affect them deeply. For her, the hardest part of being out of work is witnessing peers thriving professionally while she feels stagnant. It creates a sense of urgency as if time is slipping away.
Drawing on her experience, Neha acknowledged that she has learned to navigate these challenging periods better than newcomers. She described the exhausting nature of the industry, particularly when faced with multiple years without significant roles. Remarkably, she also emphasized that her diverse projects have kept her engaged, preventing complete stagnation in her career.
When discussing the relationship between quality work and opportunities, Neha conveyed uncertainty. She mentioned how her husband Angad praised her recent projects, questioning if good performances truly lead to more work. Reflecting on the unpredictable nature of the industry, she humorously alluded to fellow actor Akshaye Khanna’s long break from the spotlight, contemplating the potential benefits of a similar pause.
Neha’s recent endeavor includes her role in the series “Single Papa,” directed by Shashank Khaitan, Hitesh Kewalya, and Neeraj Udhwani. The comedy-drama features a talented cast, including Kunal Kemmu and Prajakta Koli, and has recently been renewed for a second season on Netflix. Through her reflections, Neha Dhupia offers a poignant reminder of the emotional complexities actors face, balancing their passion for the craft with the inevitable ebbs and flows of their careers.
