The film “Hulchul,” directed by Priyadarshan, has long enjoyed a beloved status among comedy fans. However, recent comments from actor Arshad Warsi have sparked a fresh controversy surrounding the film. Warsi described his experience on the project as “bad,” stating that the size of his role did not match the expectations set prior to filming.
Priyadarshan has responded to Warsi’s remarks with visible disappointment. In an interview with a local media outlet, he expressed his shock at the allegations and conveyed that he was taken aback upon reading Warsi’s comments. The director remarked, “I was very upset when I read what he said. If he has complained, I am shocked.”
In recalling a prior conversation with Warsi, Priyadarshan mentioned that the actor had initially praised the audience’s positive response to “Hulchul.” He noted that while the film achieved box-office success, Warsi later referred to it as a flop, which the director found particularly hurtful. “After the release, he called and told me, ‘Priyan sir, I never thought that I would get this kind of appreciation.’ Why would he say that when it was one of my hit films? I am very upset and deeply hurt by these accusations,” Priyadarshan added.
Warsi later elaborated on his dissatisfaction during an interview with another publication. He spoke about the disparity between being framed as a central character and ending up in a more marginal role. Although he conveyed his disappointment, he indicated that he did not believe Priyadarshan was aware of the situation on set, suggesting it was not the director’s fault.
Despite the ongoing disagreement, both Priyadarshan and Warsi have exciting projects on the horizon. Priyadarshan is preparing for the release of “Haiwaan,” which stars Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan, set for 2026. This film marks a reunion with major stars and is a remake of a popular Malayalam hit.
In parallel, Arshad Warsi is busy with multiple upcoming projects, including the eagerly awaited “Dhamaal 4,” which has already wrapped filming and is slated for release during Eid this year. He is also set to feature in Shah Rukh Khan’s much-anticipated film “King,” which is also expected to premiere this year.
