Producers Guild Set to Mediate with Ranveer Singh and Farhan Akhtar Following Don 3 Issues

Ranveer Singh’s departure from the much-anticipated film Don 3 has sparked significant tensions between the actor and Farhan Akhtar’s production company, Excel Entertainment. Reports indicate that the production house is demanding ₹40 crore in compensation for pre-production expenses following Singh’s exit. As the situation develops, the Producers Guild of India is scheduled to mediate discussions later this month.

The Producers Guild’s involvement aims not only to address this specific dispute but also to establish clearer industry guidelines regarding entourage-related expenses. Industry insiders suggest that the upcoming meetings may set a precedent for future productions facing similar challenges.

Excel Entertainment’s compensation request stems from claims that the actor’s departure resulted in financial losses linked to pre-production activities, scheduling disruptions, and entourage costs. While the matter has not yet been formally presented to the Guild’s general body, informal discussions are anticipated by the end of February.

Sources indicate that both parties will have the opportunity to present their cases informally during the expected meetings. Following these discussions, there will be a 10-day period allotted for potential resolution. If an agreement isn’t reached, the matter may be escalated to the Cine & TV Artistes Association (CINTAA) to protect the interests of both the producer and the artist.

The dispute has highlighted the financial pressures producers face due to increasing entourage sizes, as noted by industry experts. Many argue that guidelines should be established to better manage these costs and ensure a balanced approach in the film-making process. Excel Entertainment’s demand for compensation includes claims for sunk development costs and the need to release various department heads from the project due to the scheduling setbacks caused by Singh’s exit.

Allegedly, Ranveer Singh opted out of the project over dissatisfaction with the script, having requested multiple changes during pre-production. However, Excel maintains that production proceeded only after Singh’s approval of the final draft. Recent reports suggest that the two parties engaged in a lengthy meeting, but no resolution was achieved.

Farhan Akhtar had previously announced Ranveer’s casting in a video shared in August 2023, generating excitement among fans. The actor is set to follow in the footsteps of Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan, who portrayed Don in earlier versions of the film series. As of now, updates about the film remain scarce following the turmoil surrounding Singh’s departure.
