Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has recently responded to the significant backlash he received on social media following his controversial tweet about Kiara Advani’s bikini photos from the ‘War 2’ teaser. In an interview with Vickey Lalwani, Varma discussed his views on the commentary surrounding his remarks, which were interpreted by many as inappropriate.
When questioned about his deleted tweet, Varma stated he could not recall the specifics, explaining that he frequently posts and loses track of his earlier comments. He remarked that using an image of a beautiful woman in a bikini in a trailer is intended to provoke a reaction and suggested that his original comment was meant as a ‘backhanded compliment.’
Varma emphasized that he has always been candid about his opinions on attractive women, recalling his past comments about icons like Sridevi. He affirmed that he would continue to express his thoughts authentically, regardless of public perception. He also noted that he couldn’t remember why he chose to delete the tweet in the first place.
In his now-deleted remark, Varma had pointedly suggested that if the conflict in the film ‘War 2’ centered on a competition for Kiara Advani, it would be a blockbuster. His comment struck many as disrespectful, prompting a wave of criticism on social media platforms.
Regarding the film itself, ‘War 2’ is directed by Ayan Mukerji and represents the sixth installment in the YRF Spy Universe, following titles like ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ and ‘Pathaan.’ The movie features prominent actors Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR alongside Kiara Advani and Ashutosh Rana. However, it has received mixed to negative reviews from critics, who have pointed out issues with its writing and visual effects, leading to a disappointing performance at the box office.
