Joe Simon, a celebrated figure in the Kannada film industry, passed away on Friday at the age of 80. He reportedly suffered a heart attack while attending a meeting at the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce in Bengaluru. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he was pronounced dead later that afternoon.
During the meeting, Simon was actively contributing ideas and proposed organizing a celebratory program for filmmakers. Witnesses noted that he suddenly collapsed after stepping outside the meeting hall. The unexpected cardiac arrest came as a shock to those present, emphasizing the sudden nature of his passing.
Joe Simon’s extensive career included directing numerous successful films such as “Sahasa Simha,” “Snehada Kadalalli,” “Simha Jodi,” and “Mr Vasu.” Beyond his work as a director, he also served as Vice President of the Kannada Film Directors Association, leaving a significant mark on the industry.

D K Shivakumar, Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, expressed his condolences, stating that Simon’s death is an “irreparable loss” to Kannada cinema. He highlighted Simon’s long-standing contributions to the industry and extended prayers for his family’s strength during this difficult time.
In addition, R Ashoka, the Leader of Opposition, shared his memories of Simon’s impact as an actor, director, and dialogue writer. He fondly recalled Simon’s successful works, particularly “Sahasa Simha,” showcasing the filmmaker’s legacy within the industry.
