Bollywood actress Rhea Chakraborty is making her acting comeback after a seven-year hiatus with the Netflix show titled Family Business. The announcement was made at a Netflix event, where she shared her reflections and gratitude about resuming her career.
In a recent Instagram video, Rhea spoke candidly about returning to acting after such a long break, recalling her last project in 2019 for the film Chehre. She described the experience as surreal, saying, “7 years. It’s actually really bizarre and surreal, almost. I didn’t expect to act ever again.” Rhea emphasized that while her aspirations as a young actress were profoundly meaningful to her, her journey had led to personal changes, affecting her perspective on acting.
Accompanying the video, she expressed her feelings in the caption: “7 years have passed since I went to set… But I’m still the same girl who came to Bombay at 17 with a dream to be an actor.” Rhea shared her belief that while she had moved forward in life, a part of her had remained in pursuit of her acting dreams.
Fans responded positively on social media, with many expressing their support and congratulations. Comments highlighted the transformative nature of her journey, with admirers acknowledging her resilience and wishing her continued success.
Rhea Chakraborty began her career in the entertainment industry as a VJ before making her acting debut with the Telugu film Tuneega Tuneega. Over the years, she has appeared in several Bollywood films, including Mere Dad Ki Maruti, Sonali Cable, Bank Chor, and Half Girlfriend. However, it was the film Jalebi that gained her wider recognition. Her most recent film prior to her hiatus was Chehre, released in 2019.
In 2020, Rhea experienced a tumultuous phase when she was taken into custody by the Narcotics Control Bureau in connection with the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Despite being released on bail, the incident led to significant challenges in her career as she faced public scrutiny and allegations, which impacted her ability to find work. She later returned to the spotlight as a gang leader on MTV’s Roadies: Karm Ya Kaand, ultimately winning the season, marking her reintegration into the entertainment industry.
Regarding Family Business, the show is produced by Vikram Malhotra and Hansal Mehta with Niren Bhatt as the creator. It features a talented cast that includes Vijay Varma and Anil Kapoor, alongside actors Dhruv Sehgal, Neha Dhupia, and Raima Sen, among others. Following the release of the teaser, fans noted similarities to the acclaimed series Succession. While the specific release date for Family Business has not yet been announced, it is set to stream on Netflix later this year.
