Recent documents released from the Epstein files have brought Indian-American author Deepak Chopra into the spotlight. These documents include emails suggesting communication between Chopra and Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted child sex offender. Following these revelations, Chopra issued a statement, facing criticism particularly from actor Richa Chadha for his remarks.
Chopra addressed the controversy after an email emerged, reportedly quoting him as saying, “God is a construct. Cute girls are real.” In his statement, he expressed deep sadness for the victims connected to the case and condemned all forms of abuse and exploitation. He clarified that he had never engaged in any criminal activity and described his contact with Epstein as limited and unrelated to abusive actions.
In his response, Chopra noted that some emails from the past reflect poor judgment on his part and acknowledged how they might be perceived in light of recent events. He emphasized his commitment to supporting accountability and protecting survivors. Richa Chadha shared Chopra’s post on X and challenged him publicly, referencing a notable incident where another individual, Deepak Kumar, stood up against a mob targeting a Muslim shopkeeper. Chadha remarked with a critical sentiment, urging that if one achieves success like Deepak, they should aspire to be more morally upright.
The viral incident involving Deepak Kumar took place in Kotdwar, Uttarakhand, where he confronted a group claiming affiliation with Bajrang Dal that was harassing a shopkeeper. The mob demanded the shopkeeper change the name of his business, insisting it would cause confusion with a local temple. Kumar’s brave stand drew attention, and when asked for his name by the group, he boldly claimed, “My name is Mohammad Deepak.”
As for legal consequences, the police have registered multiple cases, including one against Kumar for allegedly using derogatory language and making threats.
Regarding Richa Chadha, she recently appeared in “Fukrey 3” and “Heeramandi” and has upcoming projects including “Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai” and a biopic on Silk Smitha.
