Actor and filmmaker Samuthirakani recently visited Hyderabad to promote his upcoming film, “Carmeni Selvam,” directed by Ram Chakri, which will also be released in Telugu. During the promotional events, he addressed a viral video in which he criticized actor Vijay following his public appearance with actress Trisha Krishnan at a wedding in Chennai. Samuthirakani emphasized that he was aware of being recorded and reiterated his stance.
At the press meeting’s conclusion, Samuthirakani was asked about his earlier comments regarding Vijay. Initially taken aback, he requested clarification when a reporter broached the topic. The reporter referenced the video of him expressing concerns about Vijay’s actions, prompting Samuthirakani to engage further on the matter.
In the contentious video, he explained, “Yes, I shared my pain. Whatever came to my mind due to that pain, I shared. I knew I was being recorded. Unfortunately, the brother did not record what I said at the beginning; he only captured the end. I don’t shy away from expressing my thoughts, regardless of being on camera.” He added that he inquired whether the person filming was pleased with the recording.
Samuthirakani revealed that he had previously supported Vijay’s political ambitions, which made his criticisms more poignant. “I was one of the first to back him. My comments stemmed from that support and subsequent disappointment,” he concluded.
In February, reports surfaced that Vijay’s wife, Sangeeta Sornalingam, had filed for divorce, accusing him of infidelity. These allegations included claims of an affair with an unnamed actress, which could be disclosed if required by court proceedings. Speculations regarding his relationship with Trisha have persisted for several years.
On March 5, Vijay attended a wedding reception with Trisha, which drew mixed reactions, including criticism from Samuthirakani and others as he gears up to compete in the Tamil Nadu elections with his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). In the recorded video, Samuthirakani questioned, “So many things are happening; why take it outside? Shouldn’t it be kept within four walls? Whom is he taking revenge on?”
In a conversation with Galatta Tamil, Samuthirakani affirmed the authenticity of his remarks. He stated, “I do not think I committed a crime. I haven’t said anything that I would regret later. I don’t consider it a mistake, and I am not apologetic for my statements.” “Carmeni Selvam” is set for theatrical release on April 3 and features a cast including Gautham Vasudev Menon and Abhinaya.
