Parasakthi,” the anticipated historical political drama featuring Sivakarthikeyan, premiered in theaters on January 10. While it initially garnered mixed reviews, the film has managed to maintain its box office momentum during the weekdays. The situation improved further on Thursday, buoyed by the Pongal holiday.
As of its sixth day in theaters, “Parasakthi” amassed approximately ₹5.10 crore, marking an upward trend compared to previous days. The film’s total earnings now reach ₹35.85 crore, indicating its growing success, particularly on a holiday that typically boosts viewer turnout.
Originally, “Parasakthi” was scheduled to compete at the box office against Vijay’s “Jana Nayagan,” which stirred significant excitement as it was said to be Vijay’s last film before entering politics. However, a last-minute delay due to certification issues affected both films. Fortunately, “Parasakthi” received its clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification right before its release.
Directed by Sudha Kongara, the film is produced by Aakash Bhaskaran of Dawn Pictures and distributed by Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Red Giant Movies. Set against the backdrop of 1960s Madras, “Parasakthi” tells the story of two brothers involved in an agitation against the imposition of Hindi in Tamil Nadu.
The cast includes notable actors such as Sreeleela, Ravi Mohan, and Atharvaa, who play key roles alongside Sivakarthikeyan. In a recent highlight, the film’s team participated in a Pongal celebration in Delhi, where they had the opportunity to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sivakarthikeyan expressed that it was an honor to participate in the celebration, emphasizing the event’s significance in promoting national unity.
