Taapsee Pannu Reflects on the Challenge of Landing Roles Like Dunki

Bollywood actor Taapsee Pannu is currently gaining recognition for her role in the courtroom drama “Assi.” In a recent interview, she shared insights into her career and what it takes to land significant roles in high-profile films like “Dunki.”

Discussing the challenges of obtaining leading roles in large commercial productions, Taapsee remarked that “Dunki” presented an opportunity for her, one that not every actress experiences. She highlighted the importance of her previous work in films like “Assi” and “Gandhari,” which helped establish her identity in the industry. Taapsee believes that her unique journey has carved out a niche for her, enabling her to secure a role in a film as notable as “Dunki.”

Reflecting on her career trajectory, Taapsee acknowledged the difficulties involved in transitioning to mainstream roles. She noted that the industry still grapples with the expectations of glamorizing female leads, despite her strong beginnings in commercial cinema. Having started her acting career in the South and then making a notable entry into Hindi cinema, she has collaborated with a diverse range of directors. This experience has given her a loyal audience base, which she cherishes.

“Dunki,” directed by Rajkumar Hirani, is a comedy-drama that explores the theme of illegal immigration through the “donkey flight” method. The film features Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role, with a cast that includes Taapsee Pannu, Boman Irani, Anil Grover, and Vikram Kochhar. Despite receiving mixed reviews, it has achieved significant commercial success, grossing ₹454 crore globally.

“Assi,” on the other hand, is directed by Anubhav Sinha and showcases Taapsee in a compelling courtroom drama. Produced under the banners of Benaras Mediaworks and T-Series Films, this film also stars notable actors including Kani Kusruti, Revathy, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub. Since its release, “Assi” has garnered mixed-to-positive reviews, amassing ₹5.75 crore domestically.

Through her performances in both films, Taapsee Pannu continues to demonstrate her versatility as an actress while navigating the complexities of the Bollywood landscape.
