The highly anticipated sequel to the 2023 film The Kerala Story has been confirmed. The announcement came from the film’s producers, Vipul Amrutlal Shah and Sunshine Pictures Limited, who revealed that the sequel will be titled Beyond The Kerala Story and is set to hit theaters on February 27.
Accompanying the release date announcement, Sunshine Pictures Limited shared a motion poster that emphasizes the film’s deeper narrative. The caption reads: “They said it was just a story. They tried to silence it. They tried to discredit it. But the truth didn’t stop. Because some stories don’t end. This time, it goes deeper. This time, it hurts more.”
Beyond The Kerala Story is produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah and directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh, a National Award-winning filmmaker. The film is co-produced by Aashin A Shah, marking a fresh direction for the franchise with new talent.
The original film, The Kerala Story, released in 2023, sparked significant controversy upon its announcement. Directed by Sudipto Sen, the movie faced accusations of being a propaganda piece aimed at discrediting the state of Kerala. Its release was finally granted after a prolonged legal struggle. Despite the challenges, The Kerala Story became an unexpected success at the box office, grossing over ₹300 crore worldwide on a budget of ₹20 crore, and it earned two National Film Awards. The cast included Adah Sharma, Siddhi Idnani, Yogita Bihani, and Sonia Balani.
With Beyond The Kerala Story, audiences can expect new faces and stories that explore real-life issues. While specific plot details remain confidential, the producers hint at narratives that reflect “voices of real victims, truths hidden in plain sight, and stories unfolding in our own neighbourhoods.” This sequel aims to expand upon the themes introduced in the first film while introducing fresh perspectives and experiences.
