Tusshar Kapoor, a prominent figure in the Indian film industry, has opened up about his journey into single fatherhood. In a recent interview, he reflected on how he became a father to his son Laksshya through surrogacy in 2016 without consulting his father, veteran actor Jeetendra, beforehand.
During a candid conversation with Meri Saheli, Tusshar shared insights into his decision to raise a child as a single parent. He described himself as having old-school values, akin to his father’s beliefs, but emphasized that their perspectives differ significantly. Having lived independently in the US for five years, Tusshar embraced a lifestyle that diverged from traditional expectations, including marriage.
Discussing the institution of marriage, he expressed respect for it but made it clear that he did not feel it was necessary for everyone. He stated that he did not require his parents’ approval when deciding to become a single father. At 39 years old, Tusshar was inspired by a conversation with filmmaker Prakash Jha, who suggested he consider single parenthood. This advice prompted him to explore the option of surrogacy, leading to his fulfillment of fatherhood.
Tusshar Kapoor is the son of Jeetendra and the brother of well-known producer Ektaa Kapoor. He has yet to marry but has embraced his role as a devoted father. His book, Bachelor Dad: My Journey to Fatherhood and More, chronicles his experiences and thoughts on parenthood.
The actor made his film debut in 2001 with Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai and has featured in numerous successful projects, including Golmaal, The Dirty Picture, and Shootout at Lokhandwala. More recently, he has ventured into the digital space with various web series such as Boone Sabki Phategi and Dus June Ki Raat Chapter 1. He also appeared in the horror-comedy Kapkapiii, a remake of the Malayalam film Romancha. Looking ahead, Tusshar is reportedly collaborating with Prakash Jha on a political thriller titled Janadesh.
