Vijay Files Complaint with TN DGP Against Ponraj Vellaichamy for Misogyny

Actor-turned-politician Vijay, the leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has lodged a formal complaint with the Tamil Nadu Director General of Police (DGP) following derogatory remarks made by DMK supporter Ponraj Vellaichamy. Ponraj referred to female TVK cadres as “prostitutes,” prompting Vijay to call for stringent legal action.

In a video shared on social media platform X, Vijay was seen submitting his complaint. A fan account also posted his written plea to the DGP, urging prompt and decisive action against Vellaichamy’s comments, which he deemed disrespectful to women in Tamil Nadu.

Vijay’s written appeal included a statement emphasizing the need to uphold the dignity of women. He condemned the offensive rhetoric and asserted the importance of taking legal measures against such derogatory expressions.

In a passionate statement posted on X, Vijay condemned Vellaichamy’s remarks as disrespectful to mothers and sisters, emphasizing their worthiness of pride and honor. He criticized the DMK for failing to act against individuals making such disparaging remarks and expressed his solidarity with the women targeted by Vellaichamy’s comments.

Vijay’s statement aimed to rally support from the women of Tamil Nadu, warning that such insults would decisively influence the upcoming election, leading to a condemnation of the DMK by the electorate.

Ponraj’s comments, which triggered the backlash, characterized Vijay’s supporters in a derogatory manner. He labeled them as an “uncultured mob of ignoramuses” and further insulted them by suggesting they were akin to “prostitutes” for their loyalty to the actor.

With the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections on the horizon, Vijay has positioned the election as a contest between the “pure force” of TVK and what he terms the “evil force” of the DMK. His complaint and subsequent statements highlight a growing tension in the political landscape of Tamil Nadu, particularly concerning the treatment and respect of women in political discourse.
